Fencing Uniforms

For the Scottish Championships, the children are required to wear a "long-sleeved top".

This is part of the British Fencing Association's safety guidelines for use with plastic foils.

Option 1 : A school uniform sweatshirt, such as http://www.fruitoftheloom.eu/imprint2012/en/products/kids/sweatshirts-jogpants/62-033-0

Long-sleeved, a thicker material for protection against slaps to the forearms with a foil, but hot to wear.

This will be £7 - £9 per sweatshirt

Option 2: A thin stretch top, such as http://www.sportsdirect.com/lonsdale-long-sleeve-t-shirt-junior-420091

It meets the letter of the guidelines, but it provides almost no protection.  It would however, keep your child cool.  It would not get the opponent's foil tip snagged in it, and so would be an effective fencing top.

I'm trying to have some get some affordable forearm protectors to wear inside the sleeve of a stretchy top like that, available for purchase.  Probably a sheet of thin foam, cut to fit around the forearm.

Also around £7 to £9 per child.

Option 3: A long-sleeved t-shirt, such as  [link to follow]

Again it meets the letter of the guidelines, but it provides almost no protection.  It would however, keep your child cooler than a sweatshirt.

Again, we'd use affordable forearm protectors inside it.

Around £6 to £8 per child.

Option 4: The best of both worlds option:  thicker material, to protect your child's arm.  Still designed to keep your child cool.

Around £17 to £20

If we are fast, we could get a FiF logo added to any of these in time for the competition.
