That's the Scottish Plastic Foil Championships complete. FiF put forward 21 entrants out of the total of 108, and contested 6 out of the 10 events. We won 10 out of those 18 medals!

Forearm protectors
These are intended to sit inside the long-sleeve of the young fencer's top.
The side nearest the skin is coated with cloth.
We have a choice of striped cotton, denim cotton, or a velvet-style polyester
Sizing
Get your young fencer to put their arm in the on-guard position, i.e. with their elbow bent, and their thumbnail facing the ceiling.
Measure from wrist, to the far end of the elbow. A notch will be cut out of the neoprene, to fit the crook of the elbow.
Get a sheet of A4 paper, and mark the full length on it, then measure from the wrist to the inside of the elbow. Pictures to follow.

Fencing Uniforms - latest news
I've settled onto the stretch t-shirts. The logo will be on a heavy rubberised material.
Big advantages
1) the fencer can wear a forearm protector inside the sleeve
2) no heat injury - they are thin and cool, unlike a sweatshirt
3) no chance of the opponents getting awarded hits because the sword snags on the folds of a loose-fitting top, like a sweatshirt
4) We can wear the protective half-jackets over or under them. (Over is better - the competition organisers may require them to be worn under, to remove the chance of the opponents sword sliding up the sleeve).
We had some trial fittings - thanks to Angus, Fergal, Mariam, Rachel, and Sean.
They were tried by two P3s, and both will be in age 7-8, and the tops will need to be taken in a little to remove any loose folds. (I'm hoping that bedding clips can take in the looseness). If not, a little stitching will sort it.
The two P6 boys both ended up in age 9-10. (The age 11-12 would have been better, bar loose folds under the arms. One P6 preferred the 11-12. Both the P6s and me were much keener on the age 9-10.)
A P7 girl, who wears a plastic chest protector, would have taken the age 9-10, but we all decided that she would be better off with the size 11-12 to accommodate the protector.

This is the logo that will be placed on the back of the t-shirts. It will be as large as we can fit on the age 7-8 t-shirts, and printed and heat-applied.

Scottish Fencing memberships for FiF's fencers
Take out your child's membership on the morning of the competition.
Collect a form in advance.
Fill the form out in advance.
Take the form with you to the competition check-in.
You can get the membership application form in any of several ways.

FiF now has a fallback plan, so that one way or another, our young fencers will be allowed to take part in the Scottish Championships,
using the Social Membership at £10, rather than the under-13 membership
at £25.
Our preferred method requires a little work by some of our parents - co-ordinating the work is a larger task than the work itself!

Scottish Plastic Foil Championships news
The head organiser assures me there are contingencies in place to ensure that all of the children will get a full two hours of fencing, no matter the size of the entries.
Everyone is confident that there is going to be a healthy entry, and there will be chococolate medals and a Scottish Fencing duffle bag for all.
