Fencing with the Longniddry Guides

Last night, the Longniddrie Guide troop learnt how to fence.

By the end of the evening, they could stab people right between the eyes - and they proved it, too!

Latest Coaching course

This weekend, FiF ran a coaching course for eight of the historic fencers of the Association for Historical Arts, drawing participants from Glasgow, Dundee and Stoke-on-Trent.

The cloisters of the University of Glasgow - the fourth oldest university in the English-speaking world

The training took place in beautiful and wonderfully atmospheric surroundings in Glasgow University.

The newly-qualified instructors, flanked by their coach-educator, and  their examiner.
Seven of the participants went on to sit their initial exam in the British Academy of Fencing, examined by the academy's most senior Master, Professor H.T. "Bert" Bracewell.

All seven passed.

Scottish Fencing Plastic Foil Championships - P3/4/5 Results.


FiF had 7 fencers at today's P3/4/5 Scottish Fencing Plastic Foil Championships, out of the 30 participants.

All 7 came home medallists : one gold, 5 silver, one bronze.

Well done to Kalu and Katie (North Merchiston); Oskar (Sighthill); Samuel and Izzy (Carrickvale); Rosie (Craiglockhart) and Ben H (Bruntsfield).

Tomorrow the P6 & P7 Championships start at 11am  (bringing the P7 event forward from the original noon check-in)

FiF North Merchiston wins "Best Club" at PaFF 09

Fencers from eight fencing clubs and twenty schools in 4 local authorities took part.

Congratulations to FiF North Merchiston, for winning "Best Club" at the 9th PaFF plastic sword-fencing competition on Saturday.

They convincingly beat out Dunblane FC to win, with FiF Craiglockhart in 3rd, and Edinburgh Fencing Club in 4th.

PaFF 09 will be running League Divisions A through to G - equalling the record.

This time, it's we have additional hall space, so it's possible to run a Division H and a Division K.

PaFF 09 is on this Sunday


The 9th and latest Plastic-and-Foam Fencing competition - the last of this school year - is on *this Sunday*.

Entry is on-line at http://bit.ly/paff-form, payment is on the day.

Check-in: 11am-11:15am
(If you are running late on the day, you can check-in by txt to 07970 069250)

The fencers are streamed into closely-matched groups ("League Divisions") for the final round.

Fencing complete by 4pm, with optional awards ceremony after.

Prizes on offer include:
The Bracewell Trophy for Form & Technique (and silver and bronze medals)
A trophy and silver and bronze medals for each League Division.
Gold medal for best Boy and best girl in each year of Primary school
Gold medal for Sportsmanship
Gold 2012-13 Series championship medal, for the person who has done best across the season
The Best School Trophy (everyone wins points for their school - the higher your final division, the more points you get for your school. the school with the most points wins).

Seating for parents, supervised play area for younger siblings, lots of car parking, and a defined end time!

Details for the 2013 Scottish Plastic Foil Championships have now been announced.

Either: join Scottish Fencing for £25, then pay the £5 entry fee (£30 total)
Or: Join Salle FiF for £3, which entitles you to join Scottish Fencing for the reduced ("Social") rate of £10, then pay the £5 entry fee (total £18)
Or: if you are already a member of a fencing club, join Scottish Fencing for the reduced ("Social") rate of £10, then pay the £5 entry fee (total £15) (People who joined Salle FiF for the 2012 Championships need to re-join)
